Alexion is a global biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and delivering life-transforming therapies for patients with severe and life-threatening rare diseases. The companies global supply chain and quality operations facility is based in Ireland. The addition of another 200 staff over the four years, will bring their total Irish workforce up to 500 employees. During the building phase, a further 800 construction jobs will also be created. During the next three years, they’ll be hiring up to 320 staff for a new centre opening in Northern Ireland. Eishtec already have offices in Wexford and Waterford, employing nearly 1,100 staff. The sector most likely to see the greatest increase, if the deal goes through, is the export sector. Reports suggest that if the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) is agreed upon, the Irish economy is forecast to have a 1.1% improvement. The TTIP will increase the export sector for three to five years, almost double what any other European Union country can expect.
